Summary


A grey fox led me to the Canadian Rockies. Or I should say "The Grey Fox," a 1982 movie starring curmudgeonly Richard Farnsworth that was so wonderfully filmed deep in British Columbia and Alberta, where the spine of the Rockies runs jaggedly through both provinces.

The movie, with the late Farnsworth as an old-time stagecoach bandit transitioning to a train robber in 1901 Canada, was filmed among mountain scenery so incredible that I knew I had to go there one day.

Canadian Rockies: Heli-Hiking, Porcupines and Bears, Oh My!

That day finally came this past summer, only I found no grey fox, just a bear and a porcupine.

The black bear, a big guy weighing several hundred pounds, came meandering out of woods, oblivious to everything except a thick patch of white daisies.

"The daisies are one of the bear's favorite foods....
