Charleston lawyer Mark Sadd kept his eye on the elegant old apartment building for years before making his move. He liked the riverfront location at 1570 Kanawha Blvd. and the architecture of the twin-peaked warm red-brick building that sits in the shadow of a high-rise apartment building.

He maintained contact with the building's owners, descendants of J.G. Stierer, who built the apartment building in 1939. When they were ready to sell in 2007, Sadd and his brother Chris, who was living in Chicago, purchased the building.
