Ashlee Teel scored 16 points, handed out eight assists and added four steals as unbeaten Capital used smothering defense to defeat visiting Spring Valley 64-45 in girls basketball Saturday.

Randi Cary chipped in with 16 points and Tiana Beatty added 15 for Capital (5-0), which came away with 12 steals and only turned the ball over five times. The Cougars held the Timberwolves to five and six points, respectively, in the first and second quarters to take a 27-11 halftime lead.
