He was retired chief of security at Central West Virginia Regional Airport Authority, with eight years of service, retired Chief of Police, St. Albans police department, with 36 years of service, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police No. 88, a member of Chiefs of Police of West Virginia, former vice mayor of St. Albans, former council member and current councilman-at-large for the city of St. Albans for over 20 years. He was a founding member of the St. Albans Riverfest committee, a member of Washington Masonic Lodge No. 58 A.F. & A.M., St. Albans, a member 32nd Degree, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and Beni Kedem Temple, Charleston, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of VFW Post 6418, and over 50-year member of American Legion Post 73, both of St. Albans, former member of the Lion's Club, St. Albans, and attended the First Baptist Church of St. Albans.
