Summary


This has been one of the warmest winters I can remember, but we have had our cold spells. Unfortunately, warm temperatures followed by cold snaps can wreak havoc on blooms and foliage.

My hellebores started to bloom at the end of December. Now, the foliage is burnt and the buds that began to open or opened fully are brown and mushy. I'm waiting for the weather to stabilize to cut the old foliage and ruined blooms off.

Fortunately, the plants will put up more flower stems and new foliage will emerge after flowering. For now, they look pretty sad.
