GENEROUS readers were so outraged by news that a bankrupt bus company took $20,000 from school children in Kanawha, Putnam and Mason counties - but wouldn't take them on their end-of-year field trips - that they donated enough money for the pupils to take trips, after all.

Children cried on Wednesday after teachers broke the news and explained complex bankruptcy proceedings. West Virginia Coach owner Scott Carson was ordered to sell his bankrupt company to Croswell VIP Motor Coach Tours of Ohio. The bankruptcy court chose that company, which offered to pay more but not to honor previous reservations. Another company offered less to buy the business and pay off creditors, but would have honored all the reservations.
