Commentary: ; It's Not the Money, It's the Principle

Summary


The Clay Center's stellar exhibition schedule has continued to blow me away. From the time I became a member of the art museum in the '80s, I have attended every (or almost every) exhibition opening. I have enthusiastically returned with friends and relatives to see the exhibits again and again. That is why I am so upset with the museum's new membership policy.

I am such a big supporter of the visual arts that I am now a docent at the museum and have served on a board there. My degree is in the visual arts. Every one of my jobs since graduating from college has been in the visual arts. I collect art, I am an artist and I have curated exhibits. One of the most rewarding aspects of being an artist and a museum member is attending special art exhibit previews. They are fun and reinforce a sense of community.
