Summary


When Fred Williams Sr. returned from naval service in World War II, he opened a small carpentry and cabinet shop on MacCorkle Avenue in South Charleston. The plain, solid cabinets he built in 1947 laid the groundwork for the more intricate cabinets and built-in furnishings produced in Williams Cabinet Shop today. His son Fred Williams Jr. and grandson John Williams are in charge now.

"I've heard people say you could roll his cabinets down a hill and they wouldn't be hurt," said grandson John Williams, 39. "We see kitchens with cabinets he built 50 years ago that are still in great shape."
